Nuclei on Earth and in the Cosmos
The modern theory of nuclei, based on the quantum mechanics of fundamental particles, effective field theories and the underlying theory of quantum chromodynamics, together with powerful computational methods, makes it possible to apply the theoretical concepts to realistic situations cosmic-wide. Researchers can explain experimental and observational findings in great detail and make predictions about possible new phenomena on Earth and in the Cosmos.
Our group explores these possibilities for applications to important scientific questions, like the origin of elements, the life and death of stars, or applications of nuclear science for societal benefit using nuclei whose properties are well understood. All these research topics can lead to better understanding of fundamental issues in the behavior of matter, or to solutions for practical problems in energy and medical applications.
